Our Philosophy

As it has been highlighted by one of the world’s leading trend forecasters, Li Edelkoort, “the extreme use of computers and screens and the speed of life of the modern society, makes us crave a sense of touch”.

We believe in the power of textiles as handmade poetry, heritage storytellers and strong vectors of emotion. By re-framing antique textiles and introducing their traditional techniques into contemporary designs, we aim to highlight the importance of ethnic art, cultural diversity and cultural heritage.

Rita curates textiles that are strongly animated by the spirit of the creator, therefore of a high material and immaterial value. It is a long process through the stages that start with textile hunting, to the conservation, reframing, designing and production, therefor we produce a limited number of bags per year, making each Collector Bag, a piece of wearable art, sold and treated as such.

Rita's Story

Antique textiles came to my life with their own plan. It was during the trip of my life, a 6 months solo adventure across Southeast Asia with my very young children back in 2011. While in Thailand, I discovered the wonderful world of antique textiles and felt an immediate attraction to their powerful artistic quality and their higher spiritual value. The stories and meaning weaved and embroidered in each piece, are treasures of cultural heritage and have ignited my imagination to create a limited portfolio of one-off-a-kind collector bags.

Each Rita von Hildebrand bag celebrates the richness and detail of its antique textile, as well as the feeling of history and pre-loved look that they hold. Charged with a unique emotional message, each antique textile tells a story of its own, becoming precious living memories of some of the most beautiful yet endangered cultures in the world.

Every step of the creative process is meticulously executed so each piece is produced individually to make the most of every textile. We use only the finest premium components for each production, ensuring clients receive an exquisite collector's item like no other. Fusing exceptional craftsmanship with timeless chic designs, our portfolio appeals to the chicest global nomad, a person who seeks uniqueness, inspiration, elegance and authenticity. We are passionate and uncompromising in the quality of production, as such, every bag is carefully put together by hand at the most prestigious atelier in Florence, Italy.

Our Products

Our first line,  RvH Collector Bags, is an unprecedented combination of modern design and antique ethnic art, creating objects of very high material and immaterial value. In the Collectors Line no two bags are the same, making each piece unique and unrepeatable.

In 2016, we created the first "non-antique" collection made specially for Faena, Miami. This line was inspired by Faena iconography and the textiles used were embroidered by the Minangkabau ethnic group of West Sumatra, using Japanese real gold thread and Swarovski crystals.

In 2017 we will be presenting our new non antique collection 'The Amulet Collection' featuring mythological protective figures from the Malay Archipielago.
